How do I enable SMTP Authentication in Microsoft Outlook 2000?

To enable SMTP Authentication in Outlook 2000:

Note: The screenshots below represent Outlook Express (Version 5 & 6), but they are the same for Outlook 2000.

  1. Open Outlook and click Tools.

  2. Select Accounts from the Tools menu.

  3. Select the Mail tab at the top of the Internet Accounts window. Click Properties.

    Note: If you receive email from a provider other than Frontier, your account name may differ from what appears in the image below.

  4. Select the Servers tab at the top of the window that appears.

    Note: If you receive email from a provider other than Frontier, your User Information may differ from what appears in the image below.

  5. If your incoming mail server is set to pop3.frontier.com, pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, pop3.newnorth.net, or in.epix.net, make sure that your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink, Newnorth, or Epix email address is present in the Account name field.

    If your incoming mail server is set to mail.ctaz.com, your CTAZ email address should be placed in the Incoming Mail Server Account name field in the format of: username@citlink.net (replacing ctaz.com with citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address.

    If your incoming mail server is set to something other than pop3.frontier.com, pop3.frontiernet.net, pop3.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, pop3.newnorth.net, or in.epix.net do not make any changes to your incoming mail server information.

    If your outgoing mail server is set to smtp.frontier.com, smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, mail.ctaz.com, smtp.newnorth.net, or out.epix.net, place a checkmark in the box to the left of My server requires authentication. Do not select Log on using Secure Password Authentication. Click the Settings button to proceed.

    If your outgoing mail server is set to something other than smtp.frontier.com, smtp.frontiernet.net, smtp.citlink.net, smtp.newnorth.net, mail.ctaz.com or out.epix.net, no changes need to be made at this time.

  6. Select Log on using, and enter your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, Newnorth, or Epix email address in the Account name field. If your email address is in the format of username@ctaz.com, change ctaz.com to citlink.net (example: username@ctaz.com becomes username@citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address.

    Enter the password for this particular email address in the Password field. Do not select Log on using Secure Password Authentication. Click OK to proceed.

  7. Click Apply at the bottom of the window Click OK.

  8. Click Close at the bottom of the window. That's it! SMTP Authentication has been enabled.
