If you hear static, noise, or other voices on the line, the cause may be nearby cordless phones, fax machines, answering machines, and modems. Try unplugging your equipment from both the jack and the electric outlet, and then plug in a standard telephone set to see if the problem is resolved. You can also check whether your cordless phone's battery is going dead. If replacing the battery solves the problem, then a weak battery was the cause.
If only one or two phones in your house are having trouble, you need to replace the faulty equipment.
If the issue is on all your phones, you may have inside or outside wiring problems. Please watch the How to Self-Test Your Home Phone video to determine where the problem is.
- If the problem is with your outside wiring, Frontier will fix the problem at no charge to you.
- If the problem is with your inside wiring or jacks, you can fix it yourself or hire a provider of your choice. You can also contact Frontier to have a technician repair the trouble. A service charge will apply for Frontier Repair assistance.
- If you have Inside Wire Maintenance, costs for repairing your inside wiring may be covered by your plan.
Important: If there are hazardous conditions outside your house that are interfering with your phone service, such as low-hanging or snapped wires or trees leaning on the wires, please call 911. Do not attempt to fix the problem around hazardous conditions.
