Cecilia K. McKenney, Frontier executive vice president-Consumer Sales & Marketing, is one of this year's recipients of the “Champions for Children Awards” presented by the Child Care Council of Westchester (CCCW).
The award is given to individuals and organizations who demonstrate what the Council describes as “an unwavering commitment to bright futures for children by creating or funding life-changing programs and initiatives.”
Cecilia and two other honorees—Dr. Jennifer Canter, CCCW Board member, and the Ossining Union Free School District—will be recognized at the Annual Awards Breakfast on Friday, May 19, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York.
The Child Care Council of Westchester is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that champions the healthy development of children, families and the community by promoting quality early care and education. It is part of a state and national network of child-care resource and referral agencies. The Council holds a Quality Assurance Credential from Child Care Aware®.
“I'm very honored to be named a Champion for Children,” Cecilia said. “I can't think of anything more important to our future and our society than the care and nurture of our children. In the long run, helping parents find great child care and helping children succeed ensures we all succeed. My company shares that belief, as do my colleagues throughout the country who volunteer their time and energy to causes committed to the health and welfare of children.”
Cecilia is a member of Frontier's Senior Leadership Team and reports to the CEO Daniel McCarthy. She also is a member of The Leadership Council of Franklin & Marshall College and a member of the Board of Trustees of The Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York. She joined the Board of the Child Care Council of Westchester in 2004.
One Council member says that once Cecilia joined the board, its energy and capacity changed immediately—a benefit of Cecilia's rigorous standards and business expertise. Her empathy about the challenges faced by working parents, especially those of limited means, also gained notice.
Cecilia set a mark as the board's most generous board donor on a personal level, whose support allowed the Council to create better outcomes for Westchester's children. From an organizational aspect, Cecilia elevated the Council's game, inspiring it to work smarter and more effectively.
Her earlier leadership positions at Frontier included oversight for Administration, Product Development, Communications and Human Resources. Prior to Frontier, Cecilia was group vice president, Headquarters Human Resources for Pepsi. Previously she worked for Mutual of New York and L.F. Rothschild in Human Resource and Management roles. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist. She and her husband Joe McKenney live in Bedford, New York and are the bursting-with-pride parents of Grace and Eleanor.
