Eudora


Eudora is an email program that is no longer in production. However, if you like it and want to continue using it, be sure to download the latest version available:

  • Eudora 7.1 for Windows—runs on Windows XP and 2000
  • Eudora 6.2.4 for Mac OS X

You can find these  setup files for free download on an archived web page. Each comes with Help in the form of a Quick Start Guide.

Select your software version below for complete SMTP Authentication instructions.

To enable SMTP Authentication in Eudora version 6.2 for Macintosh:

  1. Open Eudora and click Special > Settings.



  2. Look at the Checking Mail and Sending Mail sections.



    • If your Mail Server (Checking Mail) is set to:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      and your SMTP Server (Sending Mail) is set to:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      enter your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink, Newnorth, or Epix email address in the User Name field.
    • If your Mail Server (Checking Mail) and SMTP Server (Sending Mail) are mail.ctaz.com, enter your CTAZ email address in the User Name field in the format of username@citlink.net (replace ctaz.com with citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address.
    • If your Mail Server (Checking Mail) is set to anything other than:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      but your SMTP Server (Sending Mail) is set to:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      you may be unable to send email using Eudora 6.2 and should choose another email program.
    • If your SMTP Server (Sending Mail) is set to something other than
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      no changes are needed.
    • Click OK to save any changes you have made.
  3. Click Sending Mail on the left side of the window. In the Email Address field, make sure that your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, Newnorth, or Epix email address is present. If you are using a CTAZ email address, be sure to enter the address in the Email Address field in the format of username@citlink.net (replace ctaz.com with citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address.
  4. The box to the left of Allow authorization should be checked. Click OK to save any changes you have made.

To enable SMTP Authentication in Eudora version 7.1:

  1. Open Eudora and click Tools.



  2. Select Options from the menu that appears.



  3. Look at the Mail Server (Incoming) and SMTP Server (Outgoing) fields.



    • If your Mail Server (Incoming) is set to:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      and your SMTP Server (Outgoing) is set to:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      make sure that your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink, Newnorth, or Epix email address is entered in the User Name field.
    • If your Mail Server (Incoming) and SMTP Server (Outgoing) are mail.ctaz.com, make sure that your CTAZ email address is entered in the User Name field in the format of username@citlink.net (replace ctaz.com with citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address.
    • If your Mail Server (Incoming) is set to anything other than:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      click the Alternate Instructions link below.

      If you meet the criteria for these alternate instructions:

      1. Right-click on Persona and select New from the menu that appears.



      2. Select Create a brand new email account and click Next.



      3. Enter a name for this Personality and click Next.



      4. Enter your real name in the Your Name field and click Next.



      5. Enter your Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, Newnorth, or Epix email address and click Next.



      6. Enter your Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, Newnorth, or Epix email address for your User Name.



        If your email address:
        • is in the format of username@ctaz.com, replace ctaz.com with citlink.net. Please note, this will not change your email address.
        • ends with @frontier.com, enter pop3.frontier.com for the Incoming Email Server.
        • ends with @frontiernet.net, enter pop3.frontiernet.net for the Incoming Email Server.
        • ends with @citlink.net, enter pop3.citlink.net for the Incoming Mail Server.
        • ends with @ctaz.com, enter mail.ctaz.com for the Incoming Mail Server.
        • ends with @newnorth.net, enter pop3.newnorth.net for the Incoming Mail Server.
        • ends with @epix.net, enter in.epix.net for the Incoming Mail Server.



        If your email address ends with:
        • @frontier.com, enter smtp.frontier.com for the Outgoing Email Server.
        • @frontiernet.net, enter smtp.frontiernet.net for the Outgoing Email Server.
        • @citlink.net, enter smtp.citlink.net for the Outgoing Mail Server.
        • @ctaz.com, enter mail.ctaz.com for the Outgoing Mail Server.
        • @newnorth.net, enter smtp.newnorth.net for the Outgoing Mail Server.
        • @epix.net, enter out.epix.net for the Outgoing Mail Server.



  4. Click Finish to proceed.

  5. While on your Dominant persona, select Tools > Options.



  6. Select Sending Mail.



  7. Click on the SMTP Relay Personality and select the Personality that you just created. Click OK.
  8. If your SMTP Server (Outgoing) is set to something other than:
    • smtp.frontier.com
    • smtp.frontiernet.net
    • smtp.citlink.net
    • mail.ctaz.com
    • smtp.newnorth.net or
    • out.epix.net
    no changes are needed.
  9. Click OK to save any changes you have made.
  10. Click Getting Started on the left side of the window. The box to the left of Allow authentication should be checked. Click OK.
