Set Up My Computer

Select your computer's operating system to set up your computer to dial the 10-digit Internet access number.

To set up your Windows 2000 computer to dial the 10-digit Internet access number:

  1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Double click Network and Dial-up Connections.
  3. Double click your dialup connection and click Properties.
  4. Place a checkmark in the box to the left of Use Dialing Rules and click Rules.
  5. My Location should show your area code. Click your area code to highlight it, then click Edit.
  6. The area code should appear in the area code box. If it does not, enter it yourself.
  7. Click the Area Code Rules tab, then click New.
  8. Place your area code in the area code box. Place a checkmark in the box to the left of Include the area code. Click OK.
  9. Click Apply (if highlighted) then click OK. This will return you to the Dialing Rules tab. The phone number to be dialed should now include your area code.
  10. Click Apply (if highlighted) then click OK > OK.

To set up your Windows 7 computer to dial the 10-digit Internet access number:

  1. Click the Windows button > Control Panel.
  2. Click View Network Status and Tasks under Network and Internet.
  3. Click Change Adapter Settings on the left-hand side of the screen.
  4. Double click your dialup connection and click Properties.
  5. Place a checkmark in the box to the left of Use Dialing Rules.
  6. Enter the area code in the area code box and click OK.
  7. Review the phone number. Your dial-up access number should appear with the area code before it.

To set up your Windows Vista computer to dial the 10-digit Internet access number:

  1. Click the Windows Start button > Control Panel.
  2. Double click Network and Sharing Center and click Manage Network Connections.
  3. Double click your dialup connection and click Properties.
  4. Place a checkmark in the box to the left of Use Dialing Rules.
  5. Enter the area code in the area code box and click OK.
  6. Review the phone number. Your dialup access number should appear with the area code before it.

To set up your Windows XP computer to dial the 10-digit Internet access number:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Double click Network Connections.
  3. Double click your dialup connection and click Properties.
  4. Place a checkmark in the box to the left of Use Dialing Rules.
  5. Enter the area code in the area code box and click OK.
  6. Review the phone number. Your dialup access number should appear with the area code before it.

To set up your Macintosh OS X–X.4 computer to dial the 10-digit Internet access number:

  1. Click the Apple > System Preferences.
  2. Double click Network.
  3. Select Internal Modem from the Show drop-down menu and click the PPP tab.
  4. Add the area code in front of your local  dialup access number in the Telephone Number field.
  5. Click Apply Now.

To set up your Macintosh OS X.5 computer to dial the 10-digit Internet access number:

  1. Click the Apple > System Preferences.
  2. Double click Network.
  3. Select External/Internal Modem from the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
  4. Add the area code in front of your local  dialup access number in the Telephone Number field.
  5. Click Apply.
