Select your software version below for complete SMTP Authentication instructions.

To enable SMTP Authentication in Mac Mail v. 1.0 (OS X):

  1. Open Mac Mail and click Mail > Preferences.

  2. In the Accounts window click to highlight your Frontier account in the Description field and click Edit.

    Note: If you receive email from a provider other than Frontier, the Description may differ from what appears in the image below.

  3. On the Account Information tab look at the Host Name and SMTP Host sections.

    • If your Host Name is set to:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      make sure that your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink, Newnorth, or Epix email address is present in the User Name field.
    • If your Host Name is set to mail.ctaz.com, make sure that your complete CTAZ email address is present in the User Name field, in the format of username@citlink.net (replace ctaz.com with citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address.
    • If your Host Name is set to something other than:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      no changes are needed.
    • If your SMTP Host is set to:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      place a checkmark in the box to the left of Use authentication when sending mail. Then make sure your complete email address is entered in the SMTP User field—CTAZ users should enter their address in the format of username@citlink.net (replace ctaz.com with citlink.net—and your password is entered in the SMTP Password field.
    • If your SMTP Host is set to something other than:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      no changes are needed.
    • Click OK to save any changes.
  4. Click the red circle in the upper left-hand corner of the window. Select Save if you are asked to save your changes.

To enable SMTP Authentication in Mac Mail v. 1.25 (OS X.2 - Jaguar):

  1. Open Mac Mail and click Mail > Preferences.

  2. In the Accounts window click to highlight your Frontier account in the Description field and click Edit.

    Note: If you receive email from a provider other than Frontier, the name under the Description may differ from what appears in the image below.

  3. On the Account Information tab look at the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server sections.

    • If your Incoming Mail Server is set to:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      make sure that your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink, Newnorth, or Epix email address is present in the User Name field.
    • If your Incoming Mail Server is set to mail.ctaz.com, make sure that your complete CTAZ email address is present in the User Name field, in the format of username@citlink.net (replace ctaz.com with citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address.
    • If your Incoming Mail Server is set to something other than:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      no changes are needed.
    • If your Outgoing Mail Server is set to:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      select Options to proceed.
    • If your Outgoing Mail Server is set to something other than:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      no changes are needed.
    • If you were not instructed to click Options, skip to Step 5.
  4. Select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu and enter your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink, Newnorth, or Epix email address in the User Name field. Note: If your email address ends with ctaz.com, enter your email address in the format of username@citlink.net (replacing ctaz.com with citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address. Next, enter your password in the Password field and click OK.

  5. Click OK. Select Save if you are asked to save your changes.

To enable SMTP Authentication in Mac Mail v 1.3 (OS X.3 - Panther):

  1. Open Mac Mail and click Mail > Preferences.

  2. On the Account Information tab look at the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server sections.

    • If your Incoming Mail Server is set to:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      make sure that your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink, Newnorth, or Epix email address is present in the User Name field.

      select Server Settings to proceed.
    • If your Outgoing Mail Server is set to something other than:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      no changes are needed.
    • If you were not instructed to select Server Settings, skip to Step 4.
  3. Select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu and enter your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, Newnorth, or Epix email address in the User Name field. If your email address is in the format of username@ctaz.com, change ctaz.com to citlink.net (example: username@ctaz.com becomes username@citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address. Next, enter your password in the Password field and click OK.

  4. Click the red circle at the top of the window.

To enable SMTP Authentication in Mac Mail v 2.x (OS X.4 - Tiger):

  1. Open Mac Mail and click Mail > Preferences.

  2. On the Account Information tab look at the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server sections.

      • pop3.citlink.net

    • If you were not instructed to select Server Settings, skip to Step 4.
  3. Select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu and enter your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, Newnorth, or Epix email address in the User Name field.   1. Open Mac Mail and click Mail > Preferences.

      click the drop-down arrows to the right of your outgoing mail server name and click Edit Server List.
    • If your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is set to something other than:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      no changes are needed.
    • If you were not instructed to click Edit Server List, skip to Step 5.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.

  4. Select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu and enter your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, Newnorth, or Epix email address in the User Name field. If your email address is in the format of username@ctaz.com, change ctaz.com to citlink.net (example: username@ctaz.com becomes username@citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address. Next, enter your password in the Password field and click OK.
