To enable SMTP Authentication in Microsoft Windows Mail:

  1. Open Windows Mail and click Tools.

  2. Select Accounts from the menu.

  3. Click to select your mail account found in the Internet Accounts window, and then click Properties.

    Note: If you receive email from a provider other than Frontier, the Name may differ from what appears in the image below.

  4. Select the Servers tab at the top of the window that appears.

  5. Look at the Incoming mail (POP3) and Outgoing mail (SMTP) fields.

    • If your Incoming mail (POP3) is set to:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      make sure that your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink, Newnorth, or Epix email address is present in the E-mail username field in the Incoming Mail Server section.
    • If your Incoming mail (POP3) is set to mail.ctaz.com, your CTAZ email address should be placed in the E-mail username field in the Incoming Mail Server section in the format of username@citlink.net (replacing ctaz.com with citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address.
    • If your Incoming mail (POP3) is set to something other than:
      • pop3.frontier.com
      • pop3.frontiernet.net
      • pop3.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • pop3.newnorth.net or
      • in.epix.net
      no changes are needed.
    • If your Outgoing mail (SMTP) is set to:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      place a checkmark in the box to the left of My server requires authentication. Do not select Log on using Secure Password Authentication. Click the Settings button.
    • If your Outgoing mail (SMTP) is set to something other than:
      • smtp.frontier.com
      • smtp.frontiernet.net
      • smtp.citlink.net
      • mail.ctaz.com
      • smtp.newnorth.net or
      • out.epix.net
      no changes are needed.
    • If you were not instructed to click the Settings button, skip to Step 7.
  6. Select Log on using and enter your complete Frontier, FrontierNet, Citlink / CTAZ, Newnorth, or Epix email address in the E-mail username field in the Incoming Mail Server section. If your email address is in the format of username@ctaz.com, change ctaz.com to citlink.net (example: username@ctaz.com becomes username@citlink.net). Please note, this will not change your email address. Next, enter the password for this email address in the Password field. Do not select Log on using Secure Password Authentication. Click OK.

  7. Click Apply at the bottom of the window (if it is available) and click OK.

  8. Click Close.
