Mozilla Thunderbird

As of this writing, Mozilla Thunderbird version 45.0 is available for free download and use. You can download the latest software in the language of your choice for Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux operating systems on the Mozilla web site. The page will automatically recommend the correct version for your computer's operating system. There you can also find  complete, detailed instructions for its use, but you may want to begin with instructions for  configuring your Frontier email account. Just have these Frontier-specific facts handy:

  • Incoming mail server (POP3):
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP):
  • Your Frontier username (your email address)
  • Your Frontier password
  • Be sure to choose a secure connection.

If you are using an old version of Thunderbird and do not want to upgrade for free, then these instructions and video are for you:

  1. Launch Thunderbird and click Tools > Account Settings.
  2. Select Add Mail Account from the Account Actions drop down menu and click Next.
  3. Enter your real name in the Your Name field and your complete email address in the Email Address field.
  4. Enter your password in the Password field and click Continue.
  5. Wait for Mozilla Thunderbird to find the email settings. Make sure that Thunderbird detects and uses SSL. If it does, go to step 6. If it does not, skip to step 7.
  6. Click Create Account to complete the setup.
  7. To enable SSL encryption:
    1. Click Tools > Account Settings.
    2. Select Server Settings.
    3. Choose SSL from the drop down menu next to Connection Security.
    4. Make sure the port number reads 995.
    5. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the menu on the left.
    6. Click Edit.
    7. Choose SSL from the drop down menu next to Connection Security.
    8. Make sure the port number reads 465.
    9. Click OK > OK.

Next, follow the instructions for Thunderbird in Enable SMTP Authentication.
