Note: Before changing the wireless name or password, make sure your device is connected DIRECTLY to the modem using the yellow Ethernet cord provided with the modem. Changes can be made from a wireless connection, however, it is easier to make the changes from a device that is Ethernet capable.

To change the Wi-Fi password on your Netgear 7550:

  1. Open your web browser and go to
  2. Enter the modem username admin and the password admin. (If the password admin does not work, a factory reset may be necessary.)
  3. Select Wireless Settings from the main page of the modem interface.
  4. On the left-hand side of the Wireless Settings screen select Basic Settings, then select Security Settings where you can change your Wi-Fi password.

Important: When you change the Wi-Fi name or password, all devices connected to the modem will need to be updated with the new information.

If you have DSL service from Frontier, you may need to change your PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) password. To change the PPPoE password on your Netgear 7550:

  1. Open your web browser and go to
    Note: If you have trouble connecting to your router with your web browser, make sure your computer is configured to Obtain an IP Address Automatically.
  2. Enter the username admin and password admin or password.
  3. Click Connected next to Internet Stats on the left-hand side of the screen. (It will be in green.)
  4. Click Edit to the right of My Connection.
  5. You will see your Frontier email address listed as the Account ID and your password as the Account Password. Change the password here to your new password and click Apply.
