How can I achieve the best results from a search engine?

Here are a few handy tips to getting the most out of any search engine!
  • Avoid using common words such as "it" and "how" in your search. These words appear in so many places that they normally don’t improve your search results.
  • Narrow your search by typing a plus sign (+) in between words. For example, if you’re searching for 1965 Ford Mustang Convertibles, type “1965 Ford Mustang + Convertible”.
  • To exclude words, type a minus (-) sign between the words or phrases. For example, if you’re searching for 1965 Ford Mustangs with no mention of the color red, type “1965 Ford Mustang – Red”.
  •  If you want to search for two or more alternatives, use OR in capital letters. For example, type “1965 Ford Mustang OR 1965 Chevy Corvette”.
  • To search for an exact phrase or quotation, just put it in quotation marks. For example, search, "History will be kind to me for I intend to write it."
